The Movie IT came out Friday, September 8.  The movie everyone has been waiting for is now playing in Theaters and at the Drive In.  IT is an old thriller all our realtives and friends love. The new remastered film is based off the original 1990’s Drama. Actor Bill Skarsgard is staring as the horrid clown Pennywise whose notorious acts go back centuries. Club Spotlight: Ballet Folklorico

Ballet Folklorico is a very exciting club to join. It not only teaches you how to become a more experienced dancer but it teaches you about the Spanish culture as well. Ballet Folklorico has been around for a long time. It originated in Mexico and grew larger and larger as time went on. Ballet Folklorico consists of some basic set of steps called "zapateados" which involve a lot of heel-stomping. There are many different dances from many different regions from Mexico. The most popular dance is called "El Jarape Tapatio" which orginated from Jalisco and is performed across Mexico and all over the U.S. I interviewed some of the dancers from Folklorico and this is what they had to say:

"I joined Ballet Folklorico because I feel like dancing is my passion. I've been dancing Folklorico since I was 5 years old. I sometimes get nervous before when I perform but it ends up going away. I've gotten much better at dancing because of Folklorico" - Salvador Gonzales (11)

"The reason why I joined Folklorico was because I really enjoy dancing. To me, dancing is special because I get to learn something new and when it comes to performances I try not to get nervous so the dance can come out good. I feel Folklorico helped me a lot to because a dance better and understand more steps." - Evelin Ramirez (11)

"I've been dancing Folklorico for about 2 years at high school level and it's incredible! I joined Folklorico because I really enjoyed seeing the dances of Mexico since I saw it at Oakley Elementary School. What did I expect? Well let's see, I wanna get my voice and be out there in the public. Yes! It's fun and a very exciting experience! At times I get nervous but I am now getting used to performing since this will be my 3rd year." - Juan Antonio (11)

"I've been dancing Folklorico for 3 years now. The reason why I joined was that I wanted to try new things and learn more about my culture. My expectation for this year is to be able to perform at school rallies. Yes, Folklorico is really fun and I invited people to join! When it comes to performances it's always nerve racking but you get used to it. I've learned so much from it and I wouldn’t change it for anything." - Jenni Angeles (12)

"I joined Ballet Folklorico because I've always danced since I was a little kid and I wanted to become a more experienced dancer and work on my foot work. What I expect from Folklorico is to meet new people. I think Folklorico will be fun this year because last year was fun as well. I am always nervous for performances but who isn't? It always goes away when I set foot on the stage. And the most important thing I've learned from Ballet Folklorico is that we always come together as a family."

-Angel Espinoza (10)

-Domonic Ponce

This past Friday, PVHS had a wonderful speaker come talk to our panthers about social media safety! It was conveyed that too many teens have committed suicide, because of social media best known as cyber bullying.

"I think today’s assembly was an eye opening towards all the negative stuff that happens all the time on social media. I'll definitely be more aware of the stuff that happens on social media after this" -Cesar Munoz (12th)

Collaboration Mondays; Good Idea?

How do you feel about having collaboration day every Monday now? It should feel great getting out of school early on the day of the week you hate the most. I personally really love getting out of school early on Mondays; it feels great getting home and sleeping. What I do when I have extra time after school is either finish all the homework I didn’t do or sleep. I do believe this was an amazing idea, because you get more time to do your own stuff.

"I feel happy getting out of school early every Monday. When I have spare time, I get home and watch YouTube preferably The ACE Family and This Is L&S. Yes, it was a good idea because I have more time to do any work from classes." -Daisy Ibarra (9)

"I feel like it’s good getting out of school early, because I can do things I have to do out of school. When I have spare time, I go out with my friends or stay home and clean. I also do whatever I have to do around the house. My opinion is that making all Mondays collaboration days was a great idea." -Erica Figueroa (10)

"I feel that collaboration day on Mondays gave me the opportunity to get a head start on my homework and my assignments in all my classes. It feels great to have more time to relax on Mondays, because it helps set me up for the rest of the school week. Collaboration day on a Monday was a good idea, because it helps teachers and benefits students in their classes." -Alexis Vences (11)

"I feel happy getting out of school early, because we have time to do homework. When I have spare time, I do any homework or extra work I have to do. Yes, it was a great idea making every Monday collaboration day because we have time to do so much than the usual time we have on regular school days." -Michelle Olayo (12)

-Lizette Ramirez

"It's cool getting out of school early I get more time to do homework. Sometimes I don’t have spare time on Mondays. Yes, it was a good idea because we have more time to catch up on work and have more time to do homework." -Carlos Gonzalez (10)
