Santa Marians Jump for Joy

Santa Maria is improving and growing, but they aren't forgetting about today's youth. There is a new jump house open in the mall with various activities including dodgeball and basketball on a trampoline! It's a new fun hangout spot where people of all ages have fun and the price is affordable, only $12. If you get hungry don't worry there is a café where you can buy pizza, fries, chips candy and more. Overall, the growth of our small town has been really enthusiastic about it.

-Eldanabi Delgado Guillen

"My opinion about the jump house is it's fun and yes I've been there with a couple of friends plus there are many activities you can do! I would recommend it to others to go to the jump house." - Steph Mendoza (11)

"Yes, I have been at Rockin Jump. I personally do recommend it. My friends and I loved it; we made so many memories. Many say it's not worth it but with the right friends and timing, Rockin Jump is pretty lit." -Abby Prado (11)

"I haven't gone to the new jump house at the mall, but I have seen snapchat stories. It looks like a really fun place to be there and hang out with friends." -Jocelyn Jacobo (10)

"My initial opinion was that we would finally have something fun in Santa Maria that we could do. I haven't been there but I tell and ask people about it."

-Lizette Pompa (11)

"No, I haven't been there but I would like to go because I had a blast in a place similar like that in Ventura. I look forward to going sometime this month to have some fun. If I am to go, I would go on a Thursday." -Beartice Hernandez (10)

Our Pioneer Valley Frosh Football team will be playing Dos Pueblos on Thursday at Dos Pueblos High School due to SMHS not having a Frosh team. PV’s Frosh team is ready and eager to hunt their prey. They have a lot of confidence to pull out the win against the Dos Pueblos Chargers. They haven't been doing so well lately, but the majority of our Freshman team are excited to show the Chargers that they are not going to travel all the way to play and lose. I asked our freshman players if they are ready and what do they think the team needs to work on, and this is what they have to say:

Frosh Football Travels to Dos Pueblos Thursday

-Daniel Rodriguez

"I'm expecting us to do hopefully better than last week's game. We just have to work on our line man, blocking, getting down the field, better snaps from the center, and better blocks overall. Hopefully our receivers can catch more while catching more passes. We hope our defense keeps the same job as we did last week." - James Abrono

"I don’t really expect a tough game. But we still got to look for the worst or be ready for the worst. And I think we are going to work on our snaps, our line, our blocking, and maybe the execution of our plays." -Diego Lopez

"I expect a lot from this game because last week we didn’t play the way we wanted to play. This week will be different. We will have to work on our defense, snaps, and practically that’s basically all we need, hopefully we can get the win for the team." -Isaiha Tobias

"Hopefully this week our defense comes out strong, we are going to play a good game and possibly, we get the dub.

I expect our team to execute our plays correctly and for our defense to come out strong." - Gabriel Liendo

"I feel like this game is going to be just another game. I mean I hope we come out stronger on our defense. Our line comes out and starts blocking more. Our defense is pretty good, just not as physical but we are going to come out pretty physical this week. Hopefully we all come out, and eat because we've been hungry for the last few weeks." - Tommy Nunez

DACA, PVHS, and the President

President Trump touches his heart and starts coming up with a plan for DACA and how to help the Dreamers. This decision changes everyone's opinion on President Trump. It changes how people think about their fear of getting deported. Trump had also said his "famous wall" will not be built right now and he will help all those dreamers. But that doesn’t change anything because all these dreamers still live in fear and don’t know what might happen to them. They don’t know if they are getting deported or if they are getting their DACA removed etc. They don't know anything. The lawyers don’t inform them of the things the president is deciding on.

-By: Diana Valenzuela Garcia

How do you think it affects all those dreamers that are protected by DACA?

“DACA affects those dreamers that are protected by DACA because they can get deported back to their country and not have an opportunity to keep their education. This also affects all these dreamers because many have dreams and they are still in high school. They are about to graduate and those dreamers covered might not be able to go to college but it also affects those dreamers that want to be dreamers but can’t because it’s been removed. Dreamers have done no harm and they just came here for a better life and a better future. They don't cause any harm to anyone. Everyone is equal and should be treated equally. As of what the president has decided on helping the Dreamers it still doesn’t change the way these dreamers think.” –Diana Escobar (10th)

Is DACA important to you?

“DACA is really not important to me but it’s important to my sister because she has many dreams that she wants to accomplish. As her career she wants to be a doctor and that dream will not be accomplished since the president took DACA away. My family has lived in fear of getting deported and we fear of getting separated from my younger sisters. I hope congress comes up with a solution and doesn’t remove DACA away completely this will affect many dreamers especially those who have big dreams to accomplish” –Juan Valenzuela Jr(10th right)

Does DACA affect you in any way?

“DACA affects my children in so many ways and it affects my family. I’ve been in the United States for almost more than 20 years. When I came to the United States I was 17 years old leaving my dad behind. I came to the United States to give my family a better life and somewhere warm to live in. In Mexico, there is a lot of violence and I didn’t want my kids growing up with violence. I have two kids that were born in México and three other kids that were born here in the United States. If it were for me, I would’ve brought my wife a little earlier before she got pregnant from my oldest child and all my kids would be born here. That’s not the case for my family my 2 kids without DACA may be taken away from their siblings because of trumps decision. I think that was a cruel thing of him to do there is many Dreamers that have dreams to accomplish and by this decision they might not be fully completed. Me as a parent that I’ve been working in the fields and not getting enough rest say it’s unfair because if they take out all these immigrants who will pick the strawberries, who will pay more taxes, etc. This is just unfair and I hope congress comes up with something better because I don’t want to see my oldest daughter graduate from high school and go straight to working in the fields. I don’t wish for her working there I wish for her working in an office, but the fields I will not see my daughter” -Juan Valenzuela (left)

Do you agree with president’s trumps decision on DACA?

"I disagree with his decision because I was not born in the United States and I just feel like it's an unfair decision made by the president. Living in fear of getting deported is a very scary thing to think about. But as what I've heard he wants to help the Dreamers but I think it's just all talk and it's just a way of him saying I'm going to deport you. There is no other way for him to show his feelings towards immigrants. " -Jose Valenzuela (11th right)

"I disagree with his decision because my parents and my two older siblings are not from the United States and I'm scared that I will get separated from them. People think it's easy for us that have immigrants in our families but it's not, it's actually a scary thing to think about. I'm scared of never seeing my family again. But the decision he made is kind of weird because no one would've thought he would help dreamers since his presidency election has been discriminating all these immigrants. I think he's just all talk and will not do anything to help" -Carmen Valenzuela (9th left)

What’s your opinion on the president helping the dreamers? How does it affect you?

"My opinion the president helping just doesn’t add up because he's been so cruel since he was running for president. This just doesn’t make sense at all he was so mean and out nowhere he says I want to help that’s just dumb like no one decides to help someone after being mean for 1 year and a half of his being president. This affects my way of thinking about the president because this shows he was not meant to be a president since he never makes up his mind. It just doesn’t add up to me it makes my thoughts go in circles " -Cesilia Gallardo (12th)
