Neflix Original Review Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones is a series that follows the story of your not so average “superhero” named Jessica Jones. Jessica has a very dark past and tries to forget about it by becoming a private investigator. Eventually, someone from her past who she thought was dead comes back to haunt her and now she has to do everything in her power or she might lose herself again.

Jessica Jones is not a normal superhero, she has one of the darkest past of any superhero, her parents were killed in an accident at a young age and then she became mind controlled. Overall, she is pretty messed up. I think Krysten Ritter did an amazing job at playing Jessica Jones, she portrayed the darkness and sarcasm of her character like no other. The majority of the series was amazing there was a lot of great actors and actresses that played their role so good you almost got lost in what you were watching. Jessica Jones is a TV series so sometimes there was filler information that really didn’t need to be there, but most of the time the show got back on track with the important information. For the little time that they had to tell the story, compared to other TV shows, they really gave a lot of information about Jessica Jones and her whole life.  I think there was a character Luke that really didn’t need to be present in the story line because he was in and out of the series being her love interest and really played no pivotal role in the story. This was a great TV show that was different than any other TV show that I’ve seen, I would give it an 8.7 out of 10 because there was a lot of great acting and storytelling but there was a good amount of filler information.

IF you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

“I would like to teleport anywhere because if I ever wanted to go a certain place I could just snap my fingers and be there” –Nat Needham (10th)

“I would want super jumps so I could dunk in basketball and beat everybody because I am only 5’1”.”

–Jasmine Hernandez (11th)

“I would want to be invisible because if I wanted something I would be able to grab it without people looking at me weird” –Kearessa Gauna (12th)

“I would want to be telepathic so I could hear what other people are thinking about me.” –Shamar Arriola (9th)

“I want the ability to have super speed because I would be able to finish a lot of things fast and I could go anywhere.” –Shawn Delapena (11th)

-Mariah Arellano

It’s finally here! The load chants, fun times with friends, and those Friday night lights. As almost every panther can agree Friday nights are much better when you’re with your friends at the football stadium cheering for our Football players! Big games are coming up and everyone should come out and be a part of the fun! Our biggest game of the year is this Friday against Santa Maria, come out and be part of this great time! Also, there’s a dance right after the Varsity game!

New Class Soon to be Part of PVHS Curriculum

Story: Jerian Clocar; Photos: Alisha Erb, Marika Whaley, Karen Gonzalez.

A new “Ethnic and Gender Studies” class will soon be added to PVHS to help students learn about their own backgrounds. This class has been fought for by many teachers and students in the district.
“There’s been a lot of research done on it,” said Andrea Pasillas, senior. “We have higher attendance and higher graduation rates. Schools in Los Angeles already have these classes.”

In order to help students, learn about their own backgrounds, this class will discuss more than theaverage white male point of view. “[Minorities] are not being represented in our textbooks,” said Andrea. “This class is to teach the students about their own background.” Because this class was just recently approved, it will not be available for the current seniors at PVHS. Fortunately, the class will hopefully appear on our schedules within the next two or three years, so current freshmen will have the opportunity to take the class.

“We want students to vote with their feet by signing up for these classes to show the interest they have at looking at subjects through different perspectives,” said Mr. Kevin Ilac, History teacher and department chair.

The ethnic and gender studies class is the result of a long process for our district. Once it’s here, hopefully the students will take an interest in it and ensure its success.

Those Panthers Can Run!

-Mariah Arellano

Hey Panthers! Our Cross Country team has been putting in so much work, effort, and coming more together as a team! This past weekend our team brought back several medals and exceeded their expectations. Their coaches are very proud and the team couldn’t be happier!

How do you think the team did at your last meet? Does the team ever give you a hard time?

Well we did much better than last year, and about a dozen of the runners ended up getting medals. Overall I say we did great! –Coach Youngblood (Left)

The kids are little cooks at times and they’re not trouble makers but they give me a hard time for riding my bike. – Coach Ross

How long have you guys been a part of cross country?

“We’ve been a part of cross country for three years now counting this year. We have a lot of fun and our recent meet was great! So many of us improved! –Sergio Jaracauaro (11) and

Nicko Inay (11)
